Core Competencies
  • Critically assess data quality and perform qualitative diagnostics on well production data
  • Identify well and reservoir flow regimes from rate/pressure response
  • Estimate reserves, OGIP/OOIP and drainage area
  • Determine well performance parameters
  • Recognize pressure dependent permeability (e.g. Haynesville)
  • Pinpoint optimization candidates
  • Forecast production, with particular focus on the inherent uncertainty in unconventional plays
  • Illustrate the practical aspects of production data analysis using real examples
Topics Covered
  • Well performance analysis introduction
  • Linear flow analysis for tight fractured reservoirs
  • Simplified approach
    • Log-log diagnostic plot – identifying flow regimes
    • Specialized plot – determining LFP and skin
    • Flowing material balance analysis – determining SRV
    • Modified hyperbolic decline curves
  • History matching using analytical and numerical models
    • Modeling performance of Hz wells with multiple fractures
    • Inclusion of pressure dependent permeability
    • Inclusion of adsorbed gas
  • Examples
    • Presented examples will depend on interest of participants. Options will include Barnett, Bakken, Montney, Horn River, Marcellus, Haynesville and Eagle Ford plays
    • Participants are encouraged to bring their own data. Examples provided by attendees will be worked through as a class, time permitting.
