Experts

James Stevenson

Dr. Stevenson is Executive Director and Research Lead for Coal, Metals, and Mining within IHS Markit. Previously he headed up analysis of Global Coal and before that North American coal. Dr. Stevenson's expertise includes supply-demand dynamics of coal and iron ore markets, price forecasting, mining, transportation, and export logistics and infrastructure. He also has extensive experience in trading and asset due diligence.Prior to joining IHS Markit, Dr. Stevenson worked in commodity trading, most recently as Vice President, Coal Analysis at Mercuria Energy Trading, and before that as Coal Strategist at Louis Dreyfus Highbridge Energy. He also worked in the energy trading team, buying coal and selling power, at Eraring Energy in the Australian utility industry.Dr. Stevenson holds undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Sydney in Australia, and a Ph.D. from Yale University.

Mr. William May

Within the Pricing and Purchasing Service, he covers steel and steel raw materials and fabricated products, as well as trade and policy developments related to these commodity prices. The Weekly Pricing Pulse is a periodical that overviews commodity developments over the previous week. Mr. May formerly worked in commodity research at CRU in London covering the coking coal, iron ore and coke markets focusing on China. Earlier in his career, he managed his family firm through a refinancing process that spanned two years. Mr. May holds a BSc. in Geography from the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom and a Masters degree in mining engineering from the Camborne School of Mines, United Kingdom.

Marian Hookham

Ms. Hookham is Associate Director with IHS Markit and leads the team responsible for the metallurgical coal daily report, Inside Coal and the weekly Australian Coal Report. She has over 19 years experience covering the coal sector, previously working for consultants Barlow Jonker and Wood Mackenzie as chief coal editor.Ms. Hookham focuses on Asian metallurgical coal markets and Australian coal supply, rail, and ports.

Prasenjit Bhattacharya

Mr. Prasenjit has a total experience of 22 years in journalism, having started out with The Economic Times, Delhi, as a sub-editor in 1998. He has worked for a decade in Dow Jones Newswires and its sister publication The Wall Street Journal covering the Indian soft commodities, base and ferrous metals sectors in Delhi as well as the Asia-Pacific grains, rubber and palm oil markets in a four-year stint in Singapore. Prior to joining IHS Markit earlier in 2020, Prasenjit had worked for 7 years in international price reporting agency Argus Media, setting up and heading their ferrous price reporting and analysis desk in Singapore. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Delhi University and lives in New Delhi.
