MHCV Alternative Propulsion Forecast Module

Increasingly stringent regulations and the development of powertrain technologies is forcing medium- and heavy-truck manufacturers to consider alternative propulsion systems. Recent technological and political developments may mean even faster medium-term uptake in new propulsion technologies than previously anticipated.

IHS Markit’s new Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicle (MHCV) Alternative Propulsion module brings to market a unique dataset with technical specifications of existing and upcoming commercial-vehicle models. Building on previous high-level analysis of MHCV propulsion trends, this dataset answers the classic “who, what, when, where, how” questions and, by doing so, creates value well beyond the sum of the parts.

Key questions the forecast answers include:

  • What are the known and expected specifications of BEV, FCEV & HEV trucks and buses?
  • Which manufacturers are bringing which products to market when?
  • What will be the performance characteristics of the new vehicles?
  • How do propulsion strategies differ among manufacturers and across regions?

  • Competitive Intelligence: Compare specifications of past, current and future, BEV, FCEV & HEV commercial vehicles
  • Business Development: Understand who is launching what, which batteries are in which vehicles, how many plug-in hybrids are on the market and anticipate the need for BEV truck chargers by country
  • Volume Planning: Get an independent 3rd party view of new technology prospects
  • Grid/Power Generation Planning: Assess the combined capacity of the traction batteries in commercial vehicles expected to be sold in the coming decade
