IHS Rushmore Interventions Performance Review (IPR)

Achieve production gains with well interventions.

Why do operators participate in the IPR?

The IPR evolved out of our 2010 Rushmore Reviews user group meeting, when an operator presented on the key role of well interventions in the production of additional hydrocarbons. A well intervention is not a major workover in which the tubing is removed from the well (see our Completions Performance Review for tubing removal). Rather, it includes any work on the well to repair, upgrade or improve production. The group proposed the IPR because well interventions were delivering significant production gains but performance in this area was not well understood.

Subscribe to the IPR today to:

  • Access industry data and competitor intelligence
  • Find highly useful key technical and time data
  • Decide which data to share, the rules for sharing, yearly changes needed and how additional value can be gained

What is a "well intervention"?

A well intervention is not a major workover in which the tubing is removed from the well (see our Completions Performance Review for tubing removal). It includes any other work on the well to repair, upgrade or improve production.

Benefits of Participation in the IPR

  • Find out how your well interventions compare to others
  • Identify key performance improvement opportunities
  • Improve productivity and extend a well's economic life
  • Focus intervention budgets on areas that will add most value
  • Find out which types of interventions other operators are executing and why
  • Identify and avoid key problem and NPT areas experienced by others

Getting started

How to participate?
  • An operator contracts to participate in at least one country for at least one year
  • The operator provides data on all well interventions it performs in each country in which it is participating. However, an operator can choose to provide data for its subsea, platform and land intervention jobs or just for its subsea interventions. If the operator chooses to submit subsea jobs only, then it will only access data for subsea interventions. If the operator submits all of its intervention jobs for the year, even if it only has subsea data to provide, it will access all published intervention data from any well type
  • The data is independently quality checked and published on our website
  • If an operator provides all of its intervention jobs, it receives access to data from all countries, even if it has not carried out a well intervention there
  • An operator may also participate retrospectively
  • Never performed a well intervention? You can still join the IPR. A participant who has never performed an intervention may purchase access to published data for the current year and all previous years. A participant who purchases access to published data on this basis and expects to perform a well intervention within three years of the purchase must contract to participate for each year up until and including the year of its first expected intervention and commit to submit the required data for that year. If the participant does not expect to perform an intervention job within three years of purchase, it shall contract to participate for three years into the future
Which data are provided as part of the IPR?

Approximately 50 total data fields including:

  • Well information: name, location, technical descriptions (job depth, service type, completion type)
  • Main reason for intervention: mechanical, performance or optimization
  • Equipment used (coil tubing, derrick, wireline), rig(s) used and rigging scenario
  • Operations performed
  • Well cleanout: type of debris, clean-out interval
  • Logging type (passes, intervals) and perforating runs, intervals
  • Timings
Data entry
  • Excel workbook input
  • Workbook emailed to IHS Rushmore for QC
  • IHS Rushmore automated and manual QC checks
  • Data queries between participant and IHS Rushmore
  • Data published
Access to benchmarking tools
  • IPR key performance indicator metrics
  • IPR charts - Ability to chart total time, actual working time, NPT, waiting on others, waiting on weather
