EU General Food Law Analysis

An evaluation of the EU’s “General Food Law”, was delivered as part of the European Commission’s Regulatory Fitness and performance Programme (Fitness Check) the make sure that EU laws deliver their intended benefits for citizens, businesses and society while removing red tape and lowering costs. This evaluation examined all of the aspects of the “General Food Law” to assess the continuing relevance of the main principles and provisions on which EU feed and food law is based, identify areas which could be simplified or improved, and highlight issues which the legislation does not cover adequately.

USDA Export Market Development Programs Analysis

A project engagement was conducted for the US Wheat Associates, the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council, The Pear Bureau Northwest and the Foreign Agriculture Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. The study measured the economic impact of USDA’s Foreign Market Development Program (FMD) and Market Access Program (MAP), and industry market promotion contributions (referred to in this report jointly as the USDA Export Market Development Programs) on US agricultural exports and the broader effects on the farm economy and the overall macro economy.

EU Farm Income Analysis

A comparison of farm incomes in the EU member states was produced for the European Parliament. This study presented an overview of the income development of EU agriculture and highlighted the dynamics of farm income and its key drivers. Differences between member states by farm size and type were considered, as were differences in agricultural wages. The study provided a comprehensive understanding of farm income levels and what drives them, which allows businesses in the supply chain to understand the cost base of the production of inputs to their business and how this varies by country.

Richard's expertise and experience in market research, crop protection products, biotechnology and commodity crops has been critical for regional and global market research and consulting efforts. Prior to Agribusiness, Richard worked for 23 years in several managerial positions with Monsanto's operation in Brazil. He worked in planning, plant management, new business development and eventually started up Monsanto's BI department. Prior to Monsanto, he acted as investment portfolio director and market research manager for the Adela Group, a venture capital investment company in Brazil. In his 45+ years as a professional, Richard has carried out and coordinated more than 300 market research projects and some 150 consulting efforts in Brazil, South America, Africa and Asia.

Mr. Huddleston has led consulting efforts across numerous industries including agribusiness, biotechnology, international development, software, telecommunications, and healthcare. Before joining IHS Markit, Mr. Huddleston was chief business officer for an international genomic health institute. Mr. Huddleston also worked internationally as a short-term consultant with the World Bank, served as associate director for a boutique consulting firm, and was an associate on the economic and business analysis team at Booz Allen Hamilton.Mr. Huddleston has a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering from Vanderbilt University and a master's degree in engineering management from George Washington University.

His work involves taking medium and long-term outlooks for global and regional environments and applying them to decision making situations. In addition to his work in North America, he has extensive experience in the agribusiness sectors of other regions. Before joining us in 1989, Tom worked for the Continental Grain Company in roles including management, trading, logistics and merchandising.
