Director, IHS MarkitMartin Santo is a director and senior technical advisor at IHS Markit.
He has been teaching hands-on courses in well test analysis for the past two decades. In addition to analyzing and conducting thousands of well tests in conventional reservoirs throughout the world, Mr. Santo has coordinated the development of F.A.S.T. WellTest™ software, now part of IHS Markit. He joined the company in April 2013 during the acquisition of Fekete Associates Inc. He had been with Fekete for 32 years, beginning as a well test analyst, and then managing the well test group from 1991 to 2004. Prior to the acquisition, Mr. Santo was senior technical advisor responsible for incorporating new analysis methods for unconventional resources in the WellTest software, and providing training and support. He now continues his role as senior technical advisor, with a focus on integrating DFIT, production and well test analysis to advance our understanding of unconventional resources. He was an invited speaker at SPE Applied Technology workshops on unconventional reservoirs held in Barossa Valley, Australia (2008), Beijing, China (2011) and Banff, Alberta (2012). Mr. Santo is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and was actively involved in the Special Interest Group “Reservoir Evaluation and Production Optimization” from 1993 – 2009. He served on the committee for establishing guidelines in the Alberta Energy Resources initiative” Electronic Capture of Well Test Data”, implemented in 1999. He also assisted the committee responsible for preparing the Alberta “Upstream Petroleum Industry Flaring Guide” introduced in 1999. He has co-authored several technical papers, and continues to research and develop new methods for well testing and analysis.
