Tim Pippard

Vice President - Aerospace, Defense & Security Consulting

Mr. Tim Pippard is vice president of Aerospace, Defense & Security Consulting Services at IHS Markit, responsible for strategy support solutions, intelligence support and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) optimization services.

He manages consulting services for public and private sector aerospace, defense & security customers globally. Mr. Pippard has more than 10 years of experience focused on geopolitical dynamics, future security environments, counter-terrorism analysis, aviation markets, missile and space technologies, dual-use equipment and technologies, small arms and ammunition markets and export control regimes. His primary focus is understanding the global jihadist threat by examining the evolution and activities of Islamist extremist organizations globally – assessing the alliances and rivalries between these groups active in North and East Africa, the Gulf States, South and Southeast Asia. While understanding recruitment and radicalization and analyzing the threat of radiological and nuclear terrorism and the technologies, mechanisms, policies and procedures to counter and mitigate that threat, he concurrently leads the IHS Jane’s Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) training solutions team. Since 2009, he has served as lead trainer for workshops in Brussels, London, Den Haag, Singapore and Washington, DC. From 2010-2014, he was assistant editor of Perspectives on Terrorism, a journal of the Terrorism Research Initiative. He served as co-editor for Human and Environmental Security: An Agenda for Change (Earthscan September 2005), and for the Peacekeeping Digest in International Peacekeeping (a 2006 Taylor and Francis journal). Previously, he served as a research associate at the United Nations Association-UK, focusing on UN peacekeeping strategies and post-conflict reconstruction. Mr. Pippard studied in the UK and holds a Master of Arts in International Peace and Security from King's College, University of London, and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Comparative American Studies from the University of Warwick, UK.
