Lindsay Newman, Ph.D.

Associate Director, Head of Political Risk | Country Risk – Global Analysis & Audit, IHS Markit

Dr. Lindsay Newman is an associate director in Country Risk at IHS Markit.

She is the head of the global political risk practice and contributes to the team’s North American analysis, covering elections, domestic and foreign policy, legislative politics and civil unrest for clients, and in written analysis and media. Prior to joining IHS Markit, she completed her Ph.D. in the politics department at New York University, United States. Her research investigated the risks and economic consequences of political instability with emphasis on electoral violence. Prior to her doctoral studies, she received a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law. She worked as a mid-level associate in the capital markets practice group of White & Case in New York. In that role, she advised companies and financial institutions on capital raising activities in the debt and equity markets. She worked closely with C-suite executives, in-house counsel, and finance and operations professionals, assisting them to identify, understand, and resolve legal and business-related issues. Dr. Newman completed her undergraduate studies at Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and international studies, with honours in both majors and magna cum laude.
