Vice President, Upstream Oil & Gas Research and Consulting, IHS Markit
Mr. Paul Markwell is responsible for the global upstream oil and gas research and consulting business at IHS Markit.
His team provides insights to energy sector players globally on company strategies and transactions; E&P terms and above ground risk; costs, technology and operating performance; and plays and basins and technical analyses. In his 14 years in IHS Markit companies, he has led research and consulting teams, overseen content and advisory work on business strategy, markets outlooks; opportunity screening and characterization, unconventionals, technology and innovation. He has led integrated energy policy advisory work for governments in the MENA region. He gained 35 years of experience spanning technical and executive experience in upstream oil and gas, both in operators and in an advisory capacity. He held posts at McKinsey and Company as an upstream expert consultant and as European petroleum practice manager. Previously Mr. Markwell spent 18 years in international exploration and production companies, most recently as general manager for British-Borneo’s business in Pakistan, overseeing the commercialization and development of the company’s gas assets. He worked in business development roles in Hardy Oil and Gas, and Shell UK, and led numerous oil and gas acquisition and divestment projects. Mr. Markwell entered the industry as a petroleum engineer at Shell International and worked in a number of operational and technical team leader positions in the Netherlands, Thailand and the United Kingdom. Mr. Markwell holds a Bachelor of Science with honors from Imperial College, London, UK and completed an MBA at Henley Management College, UK.
