Mr. Markwell is Vice President, Global Upstream Oil & Gas at IHS Markit. His team provides insights to energy sector players globally on matters relating to company strategies and transactions; E&P terms and above ground risk; costs, technology and operating performance; and plays and basins and technical analyses. During his 16 years in IHS Markit companies, Mr. Markwell has led various upstream research and consulting teams on strategy, market outlooks; opportunity screening and characterization; unconventionals; technology and innovation, and government energy policy. He has more than 35 years in the energy sector spanning technical and executive experience in upstream oil and gas, both in the business itself and in an advisory capacity. Previously, he managed McKinsey's European petroleum practice, and prior to that, spent 18 years in country management, business development, petroleum engineering and operational roles with international E&P companies: British-Borneo in Pakistan, Hardy Oil & Gas, and Shell in the UK, Netherlands, and Thailand. Mr. Markwell holds a Bachelor of Science (hons) in physics from Imperial College, London and an MBA from Henley Management College, both United Kingdom. From 2011 to 2019 he was a member of the Council of Brunel University in the UK and chaired its audit committee.
