Christopher de Vere Walker
Director – Gas Power and Renewables (GPR), IHS MarkitChristopher de Vere Walker, a senior director at IHS Markit, is an authority on power sectors within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
Mr. de Vere Walker has authored numerous analytical reports on important energy issues in the CIS and carries out bespoke power projects. He specializes in Russia, East-Central Europe, South Caucasus, and Central Asia power fundamentals, infrastructure and regulations. For his work in Kazakhstan, Mr. de Vere Walker was awarded a medal for professional contribution to the development of oil, gas, and energy sectors of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Notably he co-authored Kazakhstan's 2017 and 2015 National Energy Reports, steered by KazEnergy, responsible for Kazakh power and renewable energy research and strategic recommendations. Previously, he was a cofounding director of SEEPX Energy, focusing on Russia, Balkans, and Pakistan research. He provided advisory services to international and Russian utility clients, oil majors and financial institutions. Earlier, he headed the energy brokerage power derivatives team in the UK and Continental Europe for Link Asset and Securities Ltd, covering electric power contracts - forwards, swaps and options - for producers, suppliers and traders. He advised clients during the critical collapse of Enron and the transitional period of the Pool Purchasing Price to the UK New Electricity Trading Arrangement. Mr. de Vere Walker implemented a stand-alone electronic trading platform that traded Brent Oil and the FTSE 100 future and increased trading ties between the then two largest oil exchanges in the world. Mr. de Vere Walker completed his formal education in Her Majesty's Armed Forces.
