Josef Benzaoui, Research Analyst for the North American Power and Renewables team at IHS Markit

Mr.Benzaoui is a research analyst with the North American Power and Renewables team, part of the Gas, Power, and Energy Futures team at IHS Markit. Mr. Benzaoui leads IHS Markit research and analysis related to distributed energy resources (DERs) in North America within the context of broader power markets. He helps clients understand the drivers, trends, and competitive landscape of DERs. His research focuses upon cost, technology, and policy trends within DERs and the challenges associated with integrating DERs into the grid, such as microgrids, net metering, and DG solar.

Prior to joining IHS Markit, Mr. Benzaoui was a research fellow for Boston University's Institute for Sustainable Energy, where he researched barriers to multiuser microgrids through a grant-funded study as a part of a joint team with the Northeast Clean Energy Council. He also focused on sustainable water management through grant-funded research from the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation. Specifically, he consulted for two medium-sized water utilities in Texas by analyzing utility data to develop targeted conservation strategies and revising rate structures to incentivize conservation. Mr. Benzaoui holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics (with a concentration in sustainable energy) and a Master of Arts in economics from Boston University, United States.
