Alex Melikishvili

Principal Analyst Country Risk Europe and CIS, IHS Markit

Alex Melikishvili is a principal research analyst in Country Risk Analysis and Forecasting’s Europe/Commonwealth of Independent States team at IHS Markit, focusing on Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Mr. Melikishvili specializes in analyzing risk environment in the Caucasus and Central Asia, terrorism in North Caucasus, energy geopolitics, ethnic conflicts in post-Soviet states, elite competition and succession scenario modeling in Central Asian states, including influence mapping. Mr. Melikishvili co-authored, "Islam in Russia: Politics of Identity and Security," which was published in 2004. His analytical commentary and research articles appear in Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Majlis podcast, Jane's Intelligence Review, The Guardian, EurasiaNet, National Public Radio, Al Arabiya News, Mining.com, TRT World, Al Jazeera English and others. Most recently, he participated in the Astana Economic Forum 2018 on 17-18 May 2018, where he spoke on skills and leadership in digital age and delivered presentation on how digital governance is factored in assessing Kazakhstan's country risk profile. Mr. Melikishvili received his Master of Arts in international affairs with the concentration in security studies from the George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs, United States. He speaks Georgian and Russian.
