How people power their cars is changing – and it likely won’t be at gas/petrol stations.
Currently, range anxiety is one of the leading obstacles to consumers purchasing a vehicle. No one wants to find themselves in a 'charging desert' with their batteries low. But the move towards electric vehicles is inevitable. New regulations like the European Green Deal aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and EVs are playing an essential role in this plan. And with legislatures and major automakers setting ambitious goals to migrate to an all electric fleet within the next two decades, it's time to adapt. As US president Joe Biden said in May 2021, "The future of the auto industry in electric. There's no turning back." Your job is to make sure you aren't left behind.
This is a first mover moment!
Under ideal scenarios, charging an EV will take 3-4x as long as filling up a gas tank. Gas and petrol stations are not ideally suited for this. Retail establishments on the other hand are another story. Now is the time for property owners and electricity providers to be on the cutting edge of this change, and for property owners in particular to take advantage of this major draw to get customers in the door. For example, if only one of two competing retailers offers EV charging in parking lots, guess where the consumer will go.
