Energy Briefing Mexico City 2018
IHS Markit is presenting the 2018 Energy Briefing in Mexico City, Mexico on May 30, 2018.
Mexico has made impressive progress towards fully implementing its new working framework for the energy sector and continues to hit key milestones. New bidding rounds have produced nearly 90 new contracts and the government expects to complete 2 more bidding rounds in 2018. For the gas sector, the first ever open season to transportation capacity, gas price liberalization across the country, and the completion of first phase of the contract release program drew significant interest from investors. The latest power auction to contract clean generation sources saw record-low bids for wind and solar projects and is fast tracking a more diversified power supply mix.
While investors are starting to gain confidence in the reform effort, Mexico is in the midst of an election cycle where a new President and congress will be elected July 1st. The ongoing NAFTA renegotiation and the potential of extending the final agreement to 2019 also bring additional uncertainties to the business environment and could result in a slowdown of final investment decisions from private players.
During this Energy Briefing, IHS Markit energy experts will lead an interactive discussion regarding the latest developments in the Mexican energy sector.
