Join our experts from our Economics & Country Risk team for a deep-dive discussion hosted virtually online through the Microsoft Teams platform.

The COVID-19 pandemic will likely have significant long-term impacts on economies across Africa. Many governments will struggle to mitigate the effect of reduced foreign investment on the continent, and those countries with less-diversified economies may have trouble remaining resilient in the face of decreased demand for their main export industries. The impacts, however, are unlikely to be uniform across African economies and will vary in severity depending on the speed of economic recovery for the world.
In light of these circumstances, the Africa analysis and research team at IHS Markit will lead a virtual roundtable discussion on several topics, including the continent's investment landscape post COVID-19, the financing landscape and external liquidity needs for businesses investing in Africa, and the view from European businesses on how the "business case" for investing in Africa has changed. Attendees and speakers will comprise heads of strategy and risk from a diverse group of businesses with experience of investing in Africa's largest markets. Attendance is by invitation only to ensure all participants have a chance to ask questions and share experiences relevant to their work in Africa.
Key topics for discussion
- The impact of the pandemic on economic and political risk in Africa
- Financing challenges and liquidity post Covid-19
- Strategic implications for businesses on the continent
