      Panel Discussion 1: The Opportunities of China Auto OEMs in Global Market

      Synopsis: In recent years Chinese OEMs have expanded their foothold in the global market with acquisitions of international OEMs and technology. Chinese automaker SAIC Group acquired UK’s MG Rover in 2007 and in 2009 acquired LDV Vans, Geely acquired Swedish automaker Volvo in 2010 and UK’s Manganese Bronze in 2013, while in 2014 Dongfeng Motor acquired a 14% stake in PSA Peugeot Citroen, and in 2009 BAIC acquired core technologies and platforms from Saab. Chinese OEMs are evolving to become stronger players and have gained through reorganization and technology exchanges from acquisitions as well as joint ventures with international automakers. But what lies ahead for Chinese brands? What are the strategies they need to adopt to gain competitiveness in the global marketplace?
