Formed in 1976, SPAB is comprised of standards development organizations and industry leaders. Each year, the advisory board organizes a meeting to discuss matters impacting standards development, publishing and distribution. The agenda is formed by the annually rotating SPAB Chairperson, under direction from the active SPAB membership. The conference brings together Standards Development Organizations and National Standards Bodies, Customers that (1) participate in the standards development process or, (2) apply standards in product design and development, third parties influencing the community (technology providers, publishers of reference material, industry advocates), and IHS Markit.
The conference purpose is to collaborate on issues impacting the industry, such as:
- Broadening engagement in standards development
- Conformity assessment
- Intellectual property protection
- Technological changes impacting publishing and standards delivery
- Evolving customer usage patterns
