Information & Analysis Quality
IHS has defined the data transformation process into logical steps, each designed to reduce the uncertainty that comes with using raw data.
The IHS steps for data transformation are: Source, Capture, Match, Identify, Relate, Analyze, Model and Forecast.
Maintaining the order of the steps and performing quality assessments at each are important because each step is dependent on the preceding steps. At IHS, quality at each step is assessed against four dimensions:
Correctness: Validating data accuracy relative to external reference points
Currency: Delivering new and updated content in a timely manner
Completeness: Providing the right data attributes and analysis
Consistency: Ensuring standardized identities, definitions and content across databases and products

Our datasheets are continually updated to show new information while also reflecting the latest industry changes. To this end, customers can have total assurance that they are referencing the most current component manufacturer datasheet in IHS Markit parts products at all times.
The acquisition of new part introductions from component manufacturers is the product of significant investment from our end. And because of our strong supplier relation and sourcing teams, IHS Markit now has verified that 90% of all newly introduced parts are available from supported component manufacturers in our comprehensive parts-products database.
Completeness
The CAPS/4D database now provides information on over 498 million electronic, electromechanical and mechanical components, representing a 20 million increase in parts for 2016.
The database provides environmental compliance information on more than 417 million component parts, including RoHS (394 million), REACH (320 million), DRC conflict minerals (212 million) and full material disclosures (84 million).
Correctness
The accuracy of parts information lies at the very heart of what we offer to customers, borne out of our highly focused resources and investments to ensure part correctness. Indeed, monthly independent audits of IHS Markit part-status correctness shows we have achieved an average of 99.4% part-status accuracy over the past five months—exceeding our stated goal this year to attain at least 99% precision.
Our customer support team for research requests regularly exceeds its resolution-rate goals, closing over 90% of requests within two to five days.

As we strive to continually bring you fresh and updated content in timely fashion, we have embarked on a number of proactive initiatives to ensure that our customers maximize their benefits.
Our new, premium intelligence services, for instance, provide highly detailed, country-level market data for smartphones, TV sets, digital signage and gaming—all current hot beds of activity and innovation.
For our research products, we have begun applying advanced data visualization, enabling users to more easily assess trends in pricing, market sizing, market share and technology adoption. We will continue to extend the application of data visualization into multiple research areas in the coming year.
To support clients in the telecom, mobile handset and semiconductor markets, detailed analysis is now available for the burgeoning telecommunications standard known as voice over LTE (VoLTE) for networks and services.
We have also enhanced our automated product notification system that informs clients of newly released reports and data. Email notifications now include Market Insights from the analysts associated with your subscriptions, and they will soon contain relevant press releases. By default, notifications arrive on a weekly basis if new information is available—but you can always manage your notification preferences at any time via our Technology portal.
Consistency
We are currently updating our client product-communication processes to raise awareness of key service and product updates, and we are improving the ways in which you can contact us with questions or requests for information.
And we are happy to inform that our customer support team for research requests exceeds its resolution-rate goals, regularly closing over 90% of requests within two to five days.
